This recipe is from my mentor Julia Jones' 'Nourishing Newborn Mothers' recipe book. The most wonderful postnatal recipe book full of beautiful Ayurvedic recipes. Here I will share her Date Milk recipe which I understand to be a peaceful, sweet, high-energy drink designed to help you get through long nights of breastfeeding. The nutmeg aids in sleeping, so its perfect for a bedtime routine.
Date Milk
Makes one cup
- 3–4 dried dates
- 1 cup milk
- pinch nutmeg
Soak dates in water for an hour or overnight. Use hot water if you haven’t got much time.
Put all ingredients together in a heavy based saucepan. Bring to the boil.
Remove from heat and use a blender or stick blender to puree the date milk. Pour through a nut milk bag, ne sieve or cheesecloth to strain out the dates. Serve immediately.
Try it out and let me know what you think. If you're interested in more nourishing recipes for the postnatal period, let me know in the comments or come along to the Intuitive Mothers Circle where you will enjoy nourishing company AND a nourishing meal.
Warmly
